Necrotizing Enterocolitis

Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a serious condition that occurs in mostly extremely premature babies when their intestines are damaged. The lining of the intestine can become thinned, or a hole can occur in the intestines. This can lead to serious infections and damage to intestines needing removal by a pediatric surgeon. This can make a baby very sick, require surgery, and
possibly lead to death.
